My desire is to recreate beauty in nature as I see it.
To get to know the soul of every plant I paint or draw.
My passion for art began as a child and became realized in high school. Steady art classes in the foundation of drawing allowed me to emerge and develop my skills, especially in figure drawing.
After attending college in Italy and then Parsons School of Design, where I graduated with a BFA in communication design, I began a career in advertising as an art director. I stayed in NYC for 26 years. The closest I got to “fine art” was drawing layouts and storyboards. In the late 90's I learned that there were life drawing sessions at the Society of Illustrators in NY and and started going intermittently, which rekindled my desire to draw.
I moved out of NYC in 2000 to Westchester County where I was able to start a small garden. Since then I have been cultivating and studying the flowers in my garden. Doing so inspired me to start taking botanical illustration courses in 2017 at the New York Botanical Garden. It seemed a perfect way to combine two of my loves, art and flowers. Since then I have taken classes in drawing, colored pencils and painting in watercolor, a medium I had never worked in but love. In March 2019, I traveled to England to work with Botanical Artist, Rosie Sanders.
Though this is a new pursuit, I am deeply committed to my desire being "to reproduce beauty in nature".
